Pocahontas County Historical Society Milestones

 

 

1961 - Pocahontas County Historical Society was founded

 

1962 - First meeting of the Board of Directors

 

1963 - Dedicated and Opened the Museum in the former Hunter House

 

1963 - Began collection of Historic Photographs

 

1967 - Initiated "Pioneer Days" in attempt to preserve the Pioneer Heritage

 

1969 - Moved The Kee Cabin to the Museum grounds

 

1976 - Museum placed on the National Register of Historic Places

 

1981 - Published "History of Pocahontas County, West Virginia, 1981"

 

1983 - Began project to repair the McNeel Mill in Mill Point

 

1984 - Assumed ownership of the Huntersville Jail

 

2000 - Moved genealogical records to the McClintic Library Heritage Room

 

2001 - Site of Andrew Price Monument donated to the Society

 

2006 - Reprinted Pocahontas County Marriage Bonds

 

2009 - Published "The Store: Memories of the Peoples Store and Supply"

 

2011 - Celebrated 50th Anniversary, Honored on Pioneer Days Badge

 

2011 - Sponsored Smithsonian Exhibit "The Way We Worked"

 

2012 - Transferred ownership of the Huntersville Jail to

         Huntersville Historical Traditions

 

2013 - Celebrated 50th Anniversary of Museum Dedication

 

2016 - Museum Roof Restoration/Replacement Project Completed
