The Martha Davis McNeel Welch Bible

Martha Davis, daughter of Thomas and Anne Davis, was born in Wales in 1743. She married John McNeel of Frederick County, Virginia, who was the first settler in The Little Levels (Hillsboro area of Pocahontas County, W.Va.) by permanent settlement. Soon after their marriage, in about 1765, they came to The Levels to establish their home. Martha brought with her a Welch Bible, leather bound, 5 1/2 " by 7 1/2" and printed in Welch. The fly leaf was filled with family records. Martha's bible is believed to be the first bible to cross the Alleghenies.
